RUST
1927-29
It is believed that the
late Orville Rust came to Webster High School in 1924 and first began serving as
an assistant coach under L.H. Davis during the 1924 season. before taking over the program in 1927. A Sheffield native and graduate of Des Moines University,
Rust ended up serving as a head football coach for over thirty years
at three different schools which include Webster City, Cedar Rapids Franklin, and Cedar
Rapids Washington and went 4-18 in three seasons as the Lynx head coach.
After leaving Webster City to become the head coach at C.R. Franklin (and then later
C.R. Washington), Rust ended up with an overall career of 142-109-26 and was
inducted into the Iowa High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1968.
