Lynx Stadium
Lynx Stadium, west of the High
School, became the official Home of the Lynx starting with the 1963 season.
Prior to that, home games had been played at Riverside Field since the 1920's
but due to poor lighting and inadequate facilities,
the construction of a new stadium was commissioned.
According to a 1963 Daily Freeman-Journal newspaper article:
"Gone forever is Riverside with
its poor lighting, inadequate facilities, and all its wonderful memories and
traditions. Replacing it is our new filed west of the High School.
The new field is lighted by the supervision of Essinger Electric Company of Fort
Dodge. Essinger's bids were accepted at the bid letting last summer at
$22,050. Fences for the field were brought up from Riverside, except for
some new fencing which was purchased for $100. Other new improvements are
the newly built ticket booths. Seating will be on the old bleachers from
Riverside that have been reconditioned. They will be placed on both sides
of the filed with the majority on the north side.
Parking for the games will be in the school parking lot. Overflowing
parking will be in the football practice field. Mr. Fields, school
superintendent, finds it to be a fine filed and is especially happy with the
lighting. With such a field and a winning team, a capacity crowd is
expected for the home opener."
Since the first home victory in 1963, Webster City has won over 215 games and
more than half of them have been at home. As well, Lynx Stadium has
witnessed some of the greatest games in school history such as the 1985
Semifinal game versus Harlan; most recently in 2007, the Lynx defeated Humboldt—the
defending Class 3A State Champions—27-20 in a thrilling Homecoming
contest.
The first home game played at Lynx Stadium occurred on September 27th, 1963,
against Hampton and the Lynx handily won, 49-6,

also happened to be Harley Rollinger's 101st victory as the Lynx's head
coach.
Such that, a proud and winning tradition
exists at Lynx Stadium with many more to come. In 2007 the stadium was revitalized with the construction of a new entrance that also included the building of a storage facility as well as a locker room for officials. The concession stand was also updated
by fronting it with new brick while on the west side of the bleachers, elderly
and/or handicap-accessible parking was created.
Furthermore, longtime Webster City High School art teacher Dave Niggemeyer constructed several signs
for the newly revamped stadium including a "Commitment to Excellence" that
details each Lynx squad that has qualified for the 3A playoffs since 1982.
