Semifinalists

Over the course of four seasons from 1983-86, Webster City not only went 38-5, but also reached the Class 3A Semifinals four consecutive times; however, each time—except the '84 game—the Lynx were defeated by the Harlan Cyclones.

The 1982 squad made school history by being the first Lynx team to qualify for the 3A playoffs and were paired against Harlan in the 1st Round.  Little did anyone know, the Cyclones—who eventually beat the '82 squad 6-28—would be the same opponent that Webster City would meet three of the next four seasons in the Semifinal Round.

It was always a standing-room only venue whenever Webster City and Harlan met, but the classic matchup between the two powerhouses occurred in 1985 when the 10-0 Lynx met the 10-0 Cyclones at home in an eventual blizzard; the scoreless game went into overtime and those that were there swear that the Lynx ball carrier crossed the snow-covered goal line; however, the referee ruled otherwise and Harlan left town with a 3-0 OT victory.
